NIC 10 Football: Hononegah Rooting For A Boylan Win

(10-15-14) I can almost assure you that the Hononegah Indians would like to see a Boylan win over Belvidere North on Friday night.  A win would give Hononegah a one game lead for first in the NIC 10 title race.

Hononegah has already beat both schools this season, they beat Boylan on week 2 in a come from behind win 35-34 and than held on to beat Belvidere North 35-28 the next week.

How big is this game for Belvidere North?  It’s HUGE!  It sets them up with an opportunity to win their first ever NIC 10 title (outright or shared) in their short school history.  Last year it looked like the Blue Thunder would end the Boylan win streak, only to see the Titans come back for a late game win.  Last year was the famous game where the lights went out for an extended period of time in the first half, that’s when North started to play well when the lights were turned back on.

For Boylan, after two straight losses (including a running clock loss to Harlem) Demry Croft and his teammates have been playing well.  With 5 wins they have qualified for the play-offs, but a 6th win assures them a spot.  Plus, beating North still gives them an outside shot to be Co-NIC 10 Champs.  Something that no one thought would happen this season.

The game will feature two of the NIC 10’s Top QB’s, North’s Jace Bankford and Boylan’s Minnesota bound Demry Croft.  These two will provide plenty of fireworks. The Blue Thunder’s Bankford and receiver Kevin Tevebaugh are both the All-time NIC 10 leaders in passing and receptions.  Croft continues to come up with big plays for the Titans. It should be a good night for the offense.

The game could come down to which defense can control the other teams offensive weapons. That could be a tough chore for either side and possibly a late game stop could be the difference.

If you like to compare “like” opponent scores, Harlem beat Boylan 54-13 and had a running clock in that game, while North beat Harlem the next week 48-22. Both teams play on grass fields, so no advantage that way for either team. A plus for Boylan it’s a home for them, any little advantage could win this one.

This is what NIC 10 fans have been waiting for the past several years, a CHASE for the NIC 10 title.
